Outlook Linked Image Cant Be Displayed

-->

Original KB number: 2638687

This has just started in the last few days and all Windows 10 updates have been applied. Messages that use images for links are replaced with a red X and a message that the 'Linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location.' In Microsoft Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013, images are not displayed in some email messages. Instead, you see a red x and the following text: Right-click here to download pictures. Sometimes the linked image cannot be displayed in Outlook due to your Temporary Internet Files folder. The contents of this folder can get corrupted, and the best way to fix the issue is to choose a different location for a new Temporary Internet Files folder. By doing so, you’ll recreate the Temporary Internet Files directory. Additionally, when you right-click the image and select Download Pictures, the following error is displayed instead of the original text: The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location.

    • If the folder does not exist on your computer, change the OutlookSecureTempFolder value to a valid folder path, for example **C:temp0**.
